Beautiful Sunday

Happy weekend,

It's a beautiful day in Ewa Beach. Zephira, the oldest (and my wind), is playing at the park across the street from my house. She has about a million friends in the neighborhood. Pretty sure she gets that from her mom, or my mom, i don't know. Luna, my youngest (and my moon), is walking around the park with her Obichan (Jen's Mom - who also lives with us).

Icky is inside watching Lego Heroes. The weather on this last day of January is in the 80's and everyone is in their shorts, its pretty rough living in paradise.

Zephira has a best friend now and is old enough to go back and forth from her house. They are pretty sweet together and HAVE to be together every possible minute. I remember having those friendships and counting the hours to the next time I could play with them. I have had a lot of those moments with Icky lately too. He has gotten super into Legos and will build for hours, just lost in his own mind. I am often impressed by how well he does on his own. Zephira is such a social kid and needs the company of others to really enjoy herself.

-break-

It was an overnight work day last night. When that happens on the weekend I usually bring donuts home in the morning. When I open the door of the garage Icky was sitting on the back porch waiting for me. I nice but unusual surprise. Later Jen tells me he went out there because he "forgot what the garage door sounds like" and wanted to be sure to greet me first.

Happy Birthday

Hello world,

Or maybe at this point just Hello to my wife (Jen) and maybe my mom. I am 38 today. That is true, I can not guarantee that for anything else that i say in this blog. I'm starting this blog because I have three kids (true) and we have some great conversations. I would like to share some of those conversations and adventures with the wider world. Or just Jen and my mom, whoever is reading.

I'll let you know more about me and the cast of characters that surround me as we navigate this whole Blog thing. It's something I've wanted to do for a while and now here it is.

I'll leave you with this sample of conversation with my kids. This one stars my middle child and only son Icarus, who we affectionately call Icky. The setting is bedtime and I just got done reading a few passages from his "How Stuff Works" book. After reading to him I ask a few questions to see if he was listening and how much he retained. On this night we happened to learn about lightning.

Me: And how hot does lightning get.
Icky: Reeeaaalllyy hot.
Me: yes it can be 3 times hotter then the sun (according to the book, not my first hand knowledge)
Icky: That's not that much.
Me: Did you know that the sun itself is so hot that you can't touch it or get close to it at all or you would burn up?
Icky: I can touch it. I am the sun and i touch myself all the time...
Me: .....

A little back story on this one. I am in the Navy and my children's names lend to them being elements that follow with me to sea. Icarus is the sun, because in the story of Icarus he flew to close to the sun. If you don't know the story you should check it out, epic and tragic. You will be introduced to the others soon and learn their elements as we go. Thanks for checking this out and I hope you stop by for some more stories and see where this blog goes with me.
